Captain of Sea and War Luís Ribeiro da Silva attended the Naval School’s Naval Engineering Course – Mechanics Branch in 1986 and graduated in Naval Military Sciences.
He was promoted to Marine Guard in 1986 and his CV already includes several boarding commissions on Navy ships, as Head of Service and Head of Department.
He has held various positions in the Technical Management Corps (Ship Management) and has also attended various courses in Industrial Safety, Fire Safety, Occupational Safety and Hygiene, Safety Management Systems and Environmental Management Systems and Implementation of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Systems. Plus, he has been a Senior Occupational Safety and Hygiene Technician since 2002.
In 2017, he completed the General Management Programme (Executives) at the Católica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics and is a member of the Order of Portuguese Engineers.
He is currently Head of the Monitoring and Inspection Team for the construction of the Ocean Patrol Vessels.

Admiral Fernando Jorge Pires
Admiral Fernando Jorge Pires graduated from the Naval School with a major in Marine Engineering and has a postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in the United States of America. He also has a master’s degree in Statistics and Information Management from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
As a professional, he was the head of the Naval School’s Weapons and Electronics department, as well as a professor in the same area; he was the director of the Ministry of National Defence’s Data Centre and director of Information Technology at the Armed Forces General Staff.
He was also an officer in the General Inspection of the Navy and has recently been the director of the Portuguese Navy’s Direction of Ships.
